I've just started reading this series, but finding it very interesting. I know that at some extremes, this kind of thinking can be very pro-capitalism but from my own research and writing I've found that when the physics of industry changes you just have to recalibrate. At some point it's not about what's good/bad but how the physics of doing business.
I am not totally sold that people are harder to manipulate these days, but I get the point of the thinking.
